Client Handoff

Also known as: site handover, offboarding

Giving a client their website in a form they can actually take to somebody else.

Every relationship ends eventually. A handoff is what happens on that day, and how it goes decides what the client says about you afterwards.

A clean handoff is a copy. Files, content and access, handed over in an afternoon. A messy one is a migration project somebody has to pay for, and the client usually feels that cost was your fault.

Being easy to leave is a selling point, not a weakness. Say it out loud in a proposal. Clients have all been trapped by somebody before, and the shop that promises a clean exit is the one that sounds confident about keeping them.
